My heart rejoices more than at the sight of a chest full of doubloons when I hear even the most stiff-necked bureaucrats shouting “Arrr!” and singing “The sound of the sea, the song of the birds.” In ports from Gdańsk to Szczecin, captains hand out free shots of booze to anyone who says “Ahoy, me harty!” instead of the usual “good morning.”
